Puducherry, Oct 23(UNI) The office of the Health Minister E Valsaraj in Mahe region was ransacked by unidentified miscreants last night.
Mr Valsaraj told UNI that files pertaining to sanctioning of some welfare schemes were missing after the incident.
Police said based on a complaint, a case had been registered and investigation was in progress. Fingerprints were taken and a bomb squad from adjoining Kerala was pressed into service.
No one had been arrested yet, the Minister said adding that he did not suspect anyone in the case.
Mr Valsaraj elected from Mahe constituency was away in Yanam along with Chief Minister N Rangasamy when the incident occurred. The Minister, who arrived in Puducherry this afternoon, was camping here, in view of the assembly session tomorrow. He will be visiting Mahe only after the session is over.
Meanwhile, traders in the region downed their shutters and Congress volunteers took out a procession demanding the arrest of culprits.
