Bangalore, Oct 23 (UNI) Medical Transcription (MT), one of the fastest growing fields in the healthcare sector is emerging as a lucrative career especially for housewives, retired persons and disabled as they can earn livelihood by operating from their house.
Mr Sachin Dev Thilak, Operations Manager, Shadows Infotech Private Limited, engaged in offering training courses on MT told newspersons here today that in the United States, the entire healthcare industry was based on Insurance, which needs a detailed medical records for processing Insurance claims.
''As a result MT's are in great demand in US and cost of getting the job was very high. It has opened up a new vista of opportunity in India for outsourcing the work,'' he informed.
MT service could range from a small home-based business to sophisticated high-tech organizations which employ large number of transcriptionists, proofers, QA and other related works. Besides US and UK, other countries were also venturing into it. To become a good MT one needs good listening, language skills, knowledge of medical terms, fluency in English with understanding of the American way of speech and accent was a must, he added.
Since large number of institutions offering education programme to meet the MT requirement were coming up, it had become a thriving enterprise. ''Most of these institutions have inhouse training programmes to ensure that the trainees are assured of jobs at the end of their course,'' he added.
