Inflammable gas leaves people baffled

Bareilly, Oct 23 (UNI) Local people are baffled these days over emanation of gas from several spots at a place near Behgul river in Fatehganj (West) area here.

The river originates from Terai area of Uttarakhand.

The gas, which is said to be inflammable, was first spotted on Sunday.

Besides, gas bubbles can be spotted incessantly emerging from the river bed.

According to locals, there was a garbage dump in the place, where the gas is now leaking.

Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) station manager Shailendra Kumar told UNI that on investigation, the gas was found to be methane.

The gas could be formed due to fermentation of garbage, he added.

''Meanwhile, an Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) team has been called from Dehradun to test the gas,'' Mr Kumar informed.
