ICL to take off its T20 Indian championship on Nov 30

Chennai, Oct 23 (UNI) The Indian Cricket League (ICL) will finally take off its ''Twenty 20 Indian Championship'' from November 30 to December 16 at Panchkula near Chandigarh.

The tournament will have 20 matches to be played at the Tau Devi Lal Cricket Stadium. There will be 15 round robin League matches, followed by five classification matches.

December 16th -- Super Sunday -- will witness the Grand Final preceded by the 5th/6th place and the 3rd/4th place deciding matches.

This was decided at a meeting Chaired by former India captain Kapil Dev and attended by senior coaches and administrators of ICL, which has been conducting its second camp at the Mayajal Sports Complex on the East Coast Road here.

Apart from coach Balwinder Singh Sandhu, former BCCI selection committee Chairman Kiran More, E A S Prasanna, Sandip Patil, Madanlal, Ashok Malhotra, Bharat Reddy and Dean Jones attended the meeting.

It may be recalled that it was here that the ICL had its first coaching camp two months ago at the Mayajaal sports complex with about 50 probables attending.

During the ongoing second camp which is to conclude on October 25, Rohan Gavaskar, son of former India captain and legendary opening batsman Sunil Gavaskar, formally joined the league and attended the coaching sessions.

After the anouncement of the dates, Kapil Dev said, ''We are working hard to deliver a very exciting tournament for the Indian viewers. I am confident that the public in this country will witness for the first time a fully professionally run and organised extravaganza of cricket.'' UNI
