Group set up to oversee Delhi's transition into global metro

New Delhi, Oct 23 (UNI) A 'vision' group comprising eminent persons from different fields has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna, to dwell on ways by which Delhi could be transformed into a ''global metropolis and a world-class city.'' Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit is the Vice-Chairperson of the 37-member Delhi Vision Group.

The Group has been set up on the recommendation of an Expert Committee on unauthorised constructions set up by the Centre in February 2006.

Other members include Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission; Charles Correa, Chairman, Delhi Urban Arts Commission; E Sreedharan, MD, Delhi Metro Corporation; DLF Chairman K P Singh; DDA's Dinesh Rai; Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal; Ashok Nigam, Commissioner, MCD; Parimal Rai, Chairman, NDMC; Arun Mathur, CEO, DJB; Deepak Pental, Vice-Chancellor, Delhi University and Ram Niwas Mirdha, Chairman Sangeet Natak Akademi.

Media personalities in the panel are Ms Shobhana Bhartia, Vice-Chairman, Hindustan Times; Sayeed Naqvi, Editor, Current; Shekhar Gupta, Editor-in-Chief, India Express and Aroon Poorie, Chief Editor, India Today.

The first meeting of the Group is scheduled for October 25 at the Raj Niwas. It will be meeting once in six months, LG office sources said.
