Chandigarh, Oct 23 (UNI) Ferozepur district with 11.10 lakh tonnes was leading the procurement of paddy in Punjab followed by Ludhiana with 10.45 lakh tonnes.
Patiala was at the third spot with procurement figures touching above eight lakh tonnes.
According to official figures released today government agencies and private millers had procured more than 87.15 lakh tonnes of paddy till yesterday.
Of the total procurement the government agencies had procured 69.73 lakhs tonnes while the rest was purchased by private millers.
The state government has already made payments to the tune of Rs 3863.61 crore for the paddy procured till October 21. A sum of Rs 4630.22 crore has been allocated to all agencies to ensure timely payment to the farmers.
The Government had already issued instructions to make payment to the farmers within 72 hours of lifting of paddy. In order to ensure smooth procurement and timely payments to the farmers, the state Government has already got a cash credit limit of Rs 7439 crore sanctioned from Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
