Farmer arrested for burning paddy straw

Fatehgarh Sahib, Oct 23 (UNI) Local police has arrested a farmer for violating the District Magistrate's order banning burning of paddy straw.

According to sources, Surjit Singh, a resident of Ferozepur village was arrested under section 188 of the IPC on the complaint of ASI Gurbachan Singh.

The District Magistrate has banned the burning of paddy straw as per orders issued on September 25 under section 144 of CrPC as the practice was causing massive pollution, hindering the movement of traffic besides posing a danger to other crops.
