Bangalore, Oct 23 (UNI) Cookson Electronics (CE), the three billion US Dollar global major in innovative materials used in the electronic industry, today announced the relocation of its R and D centre in the city.

The new facility, which has come up with an investment of USD ten million would carry out breakthrough research and development of innovative materials used in electronic assembly processes, company CEO Steven Corbett said.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the CE had made India as its major R and D base along with the US and Japan and set up a centre at the Indian Institute of Science here. ''We have expanded our investment in people and equipment and outgrown our space. Now, we are moving into a larger R and D facility. This is extremely important for our continued growth in Asia as APAC region contributes to half of our total sales,'' he said.

Mr Borbett said CE was present in products of almost all major brands in consumer electronics, telecommunication, networking and mother boards and offers customer support worldwide. In India, it catered to all major electronics materials manufacturers involved in telecom, consumer electronics, power and semiconductor space. Among its ten manufacturing facilities worldwide, CE had one plant in India at Ambattur in Chennai, he said.

The Bangalore Centre would now focus on adapting nano materials and re-energy products.

CE CTO Bawa Singh said the Bangalore centre would be focusing on emerging technologies and products for other high technology-based business sectors.

''We will be more involved in semiconductor manufacturing and packaging. In the photo-voltaic industry and in the area of renewable energy, our products, in form of high conductivity, low temperature fusing nano-silver inks and other nano technology-based products, will help our solar customers increase their operational efficiencies,'' Dr Singh added.
