New Delhi, Oct 23 (UNI) In a bid to effectively "expose" the BJP on the Sethusamudram project issue ahead of the Gujarat assembly elections, the Congress will release a booklet on the controversial project in Tamil Nadu before Diwali.
A draft of the booklet was finalised in a meeting of the newly-constituted Publicity Committee of the All India Congress Commitee, which was attended by AICC General Secretaries Rahul Gandhi, Digvijay Singh and Veerappa Moily with other members.
"It will be printed and released before Diwali after clearance from the Congress President Sonia Gandhi," former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh told mediapersons.
The booklet would demolish the BJP and Hindutva outfits' criticism that the project would hurt the sentiments of the millions of Hindus over the world as it sought to destroy the ''Ram Sethu'', which was believed to have been built by the ''Vanara Sena'' of Lord Ram to cross over to Sri Lanka to save his wife Sita from the clutches of the demon king Ravana.
It would explain to the people that the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project was sanctioned by the BJP-led NDA government with the same alignment that was proposed to be undertaken now. The project was promised by the BJP in its election manifesto in 1999.
He said the booklet would be printed in English, Hindi and Telugu.
