Howrah, Oct 23 (UNI) The old saying of a cat having nine lives proved true when a feline was rescued today from a highrise after spending several days there.
The creature was stuck on a ledge on the fifth floor of the district's GPO.
He was miraculously rescued by five fire tenders after a four hour effort, to the immense joy and relief of bystanders.
When the employees of the office left for the long Durga puja vacation last week little did they realise that the cat was stuck there with no hope of escape.
After work resumed in the post office today, people heard its pathetic cries and called the fire station. Five fire tenders appeared on the spot along with an extendable ladder to reach the narrow parapet on one end of the building where the animal was stuck.
After four hours, the cat was rescued by throwing it off the ledge and into the waiting hands of people gathered there holding a large piece of cloth.
