New Delhi, Oct 23 (UNI) Taking exception to the Election Commission's instructions to remove the photographs of ministers in Gujarat from the official websites of varous departments of the State Goverment, the BJP today said it wondered why similar directions were not issued in Himachal Pradesh.
BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar and Election Cell Convenor R Ramakrishna, in their petition before the CEC, said it would be appropriate if similar instructions be issued in Himachal Pradesh as its official websites also carried pictures and activities of its ministers.
'' Otherwise it will give a wrong signal as if the Gujarat Government alone was on a wrong track, which is being corrected by the EC,'' they said.
The Central websites and its agencies and public sector units carried the photographs of the Union Ministers from Gujarat and the same was not restricted and their impact on the electorate would be the same as that of the state ministers, the party leaders said.
There seems to be no advice to them, they added.
They said many of the EC, directions are based on the recommendations of State Election Officers and the CEC should verify the feasibility and desirability of such suggestions in the larger context and issue the directions universally.
'' We are contrained to observe that in various matters like transfer of officers, the EC seems to have perceived .... double standards,'' they said, adding such perceptions can't be rigid for Gujarat and lax for HP in order to obtain high standards of objectivity and impartiality.
