AIADMK MLA launches noon meal scheme for poor in Pondy

Puducherry, Oct 23 (UNI) In a gesture of goodwill, AIADMK legislator Om Sakthi Segar has launched a new scheme to provide noon meals to destitutes and old-aged persons in his Nellithoppe constituency.

Mr Segar took the decision to launch the scheme after listening to the problems of the poor people at his newly-opened office here.

Mr Segar, when contacted by newspersons said he wanted to do something for the poor people.

''As help from the government could not be expected being an opposition party member, I decided to start the scheme on my own,'' the AIADMK legislator said, adding more than 200 old-aged and destitutes were provided food yesterday.

Asserting that the scheme would not be given up, he said the destitutes and old-aged persons would be provided food between 1200 and 1500 hrs at his office.
