666 mobile towers to be set up in UP

Moradabad, Oct 23 (UNI) Aiming at expansion of cell phone' network in rural and less developed areas, almost 666 new mobile towers would be set up in 66 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

The Information Technology Ministry has prepared a scheme, according to which towers will be set up for better mobile connectivity. A Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) will also be established.

Besides, the 66 districts would be divided into six areas and termed as 'cluster.' Principal secretary of Uttar Pradesh Information and Electronics department Johra Chatterjee had been appointed the co-ordinate officer for the scheme.

According to sources, Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology A Raja has sent the details of the plan to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.
