Neighbour nabbed for kidnapping child for Rs 1 crore ransom

Kaithal, Oct 22 (UNI) A man, who in a bid to become rich overnight kidnapped a neighbour's child for Rs one crore ransom, has been arrested by police here.

SSP Anil Kumar said here today that the police also recovered a mobile phone sim card and motorcycle used by the accused Ashwani Kumar, for demanding the ransom money.

The accused, who allegedly kidnapped three-year-old Ayush from Sakra village on October 17, was sent in 14-day judicial custody by a local court today.

The kidnapped boy has already been recovered and handed over safely to his parents .

Giving details of this case, the SSP said Ayush was kidnapped on October 17 when his parents were away to Karnal for a medical checkup.

The father of the child, a food grains commission agent at Nigdu, while coming back from Karnal in the evening, received a call on his mobile, in which the caller told him that his son had been kidnapped and demanded Rs 1 crore as ransom. He also threatened the father of dire consequences if he informed the police .

When the businessman reached his house he found his son missing.

However, at about 2000 hrs a resident of same village brought Ayush back to his house and told his parents that the boy was found by him lying unconcious near the water tank.

On receiving complaint from father of the boy, police began investigation and arrested a neighbour Ashwani.

The accused was taken on police remand and interrogation revealed that there was no hand of any criminal gang in this case and Ashwani had tried to become rich over night by kidnapping the boy.
