IRCTC's portal adjudged best govenment and PSU website

New Delhi, Oct 22 (UNI) Credited with changing the way railway tickets are bought in India, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC)'s reservation portal -- 'www.irctc.co.in' -- has been adjudged the best Government and Public Sector Undertaking website.

The award was decided on the basis of a comprehensive industry research by global research leaders Frost&Sullivan.

The survey was made for Axill and WEB18, which have launched ''The Genius of the Web'', a pioneering series of awards in multiple categories that will recognise outstanding industry achievements by companies that have done commendable work in the online space.

These awards have been in various categories like banking, PSU and Government websites, Best Consumer Broadband ISP, Best Business ISP, Best Consumer Email Service Provider and Best Community/Social Networking.

IRCTC's reservation site -- www.irctc.co.in -- deployed in 2002 and based on Broadvision's E-Comm platform, has been recognised by 'The Genius of the Web' for its 'diligence and innovation required by companies to implement a successful business plan and excel in the marketplace.'' A subsidiary of the Indian Railways, IRCTC which provides a fresh meal service for its express trains, has pioneered the online rail ticket booking through its website and various unconventional modes like mobile phone and SMS. Users of this service get their tickets at their door step without any hassle.
