Bangalore, Oct 22 (UNI) Police have succeeded in nabbing a 16-member Inter-State car lifters gang and have recovered 20 cars and eight two wheelers worth over Rs 1.42 crore, Commissioner of Police Neelam Achutha Rao said today.
Talking to newsmen here, he said that the modus operandi of the gang to cut open steering lock of luxury cars parked on the roads during the night and drive them away. The stolen cars were being sold in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh with fake registration numbers.
The accused were also used to take cars from the owners for running as taxis and after taking them to neighbouring States and used fake company documents get them registered done in the local RTO and sell them.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Gopal Hosur, who was also present, said that a Police team from Tamil Nadu has arrived to interrogate the arrested.
He said that it was also under investigation about alleged gang operating in Vishakapatnam for supply of stolen cars from Southern States to Northern States in the country.
