Hindustan Club, BSF record contrasting victories

New Delhi, Oct 22 (UNI) Border Security Force (BSF) and local challenger Hindustan Club chalked out contrasting victories in the quialifying round of the Durand Football cup here today.

BSF overpowered Corp of Signals (Goa) 3-0 while in an all Delhi affair Hindustan Club ousted Garhwal Heroes 5-4 in a penalty shootout.

In a slow placed match, BSF struck in the last quarter of the game slamming three goals in a space of 27 minutes.

The teams failed to break the deadlock in the first sesion and it was only in the 21st minute of the second half that BSF got the chance to surge ahead with PH Boysingh captalising on a defensive lapse scored the goal.

Harjit Singh made it 2-0 in the 84th minute and thre minutes into the injury time Prabhjit Singh completed the tally for the winners(3-0).

Earlier Hindustan Club muffed some good chances to notch up a win in the regulation period.

Garhwal Heroes played a defensive game in the first session frustrating their rivals who made some good moves.

Hindustan Club brought in their Nigerian import Nathan into the attack in the second half and their atacks picked up the pace.

In the 56th minute Nathan setup compatriot Daniel near the rival box but the Nigerian striker failed to convert the good chance.

Nathan then made couple of good solo moves and though he was able beat the defenders he fumbled in the box to let go the chances.

As the teams failed to score in the 90 minute play, Penalty shoot out was enforced to break the deadlock.

The teams were levelled 4-4 but Rajeev Karmarkar missed his last spot kick and that sealed Garhwal Herpoes fate.

For Hindustan the goal scorers were: Manish Maithani, Jagbandhu Modi, Isreal Gurung, Nathan and Harminder Singh.

Ashish Pandey, Davesh Kaushik, Inderjit Sharma and Ganganlung Kamei convereted their spot kicks for the losers.
