Pune, Oct 22 (UNI) Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt tonight reached the Yerwada Jail here to resume serving a six-year sentence for illegal weapons possession in a case linked to a 1993 bombing that killed 257 people.

Dutt reached the Yerwada jail around 2330 hrs amid tight security arrangements. Here he would be kept in cell number three, which falls under the category of high security cell.

Dutt was brought to Yerwada jail from Mumbai Arthur Road Jail by prison van. Dutt, who left the Arthur Road Jail at 2030 hrs, was said to have travelled most of his journey standing in the van.

Earlier in the day, Dutt turned himself in immediately after receiving sentencing papers from the special TADA court.

Dutt was sentenced to six years in prison on July 31 for possessing three automatic rifles and a pistol that had been supplied to him by men subsequently convicted in the bombing.

He was released on August 22 because the court had still not issued sentencing papers. The delay occurred because the judgment, which ran to 4,340 pages, needed to be issued to all 100 convicts in the case.

He was, however, acquitted of more serious terrorism and conspiracy charges.
