Shimla, Oct 22 (UNI) The BJP today released the first list of its candidates for the three tribal constituencies of Lahaul Spiti, Kinnuar and Bharmaur in Himachal Pradesh, which go to the polls on November 14.
Talking to UNI state party president Jai Ram Thakur said the party has fielded Tulsi Ram from Bharmaur, former minister Ram Lal Markanday from Lahaul Spiti and Tejwant Singh Negi from Kinnuar assembly constituency.
Yesterday, the Congress had announced its candidates for the three tribal constituencies where elections are to be held in the first phase on November 14 while polls in the remaining 65 other constituencies would be held on December 19.
Mr Thakur said the party was geared up for the assembly elections, which would ensure the end of the present Congress Government that had failed on several fronts.
The decision about the candidates was taken by the party's central election committee, (CEC) which met at New Delhi under the chairmanship of party president Rajnath Singh, he said.
However, it is no smooth ride for both the Congress and the BJP in the first phase of elections with both the BJP and the Congress grappling with dissidence in Lahaul Spiti.
While four BJP leaders have opposed Mr Markanday's candidature, saying that he had joined the party for personal gains, sitting Congress legislator Raghbir Singh, who has been denied ticket this year, has indicated to contest elections against the official party candidate.
