New Delhi, Oct 22 (UNI) A Lok Sabha member from Andhra Pradesh has appealed to Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh to set up an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Eluru in West Godavari district to ensure the ''balanced development'' of the state.

In a letter to the HRD minister, Congress MP K S Rao said the government had taken a decision to set up an IIM in Andhra Pradesh.

''Since Hyderabad, being state capital, has already many premier central educational institutions, the coastal Andhra has not got its share. This has created a void in balanced development of the entire state,'' he said.

Mr Rao said Eluru in West Godavari district would be the ideal place for hosting the IIM in the state.

''Eluru is ideally located in coastal Andhra. It has excellent road, rail and air connectivity and is an important hub for business and trade activities in the region,'' he pointed out.

Mr Rao, who represents Eluru in the Lok Sabha, also said people of the region had been clamouring for a premier educational institution for their betterment.
