Vijayawada, Oct 22 (UNI) Twelve people were killed and 13 others injured in two different road accidents in Andhra Pradesh today.
Police said nine people, including six women, were killed and one woman injured when the Tata Sumo in which they were travelling collided head-on with an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus near Ragampeta in East Godavari district this evening.
The Sumo was proceeding to Kakinada from Rajahmundry and the bus was coming in the opposite direction, when the mishap occurred.
Eight people died on the spot, while one person died at a hospital in Rajahmundry. The injured woman K Naga Sunitha was admitted in a private hospital in Rajanagaram.
The deceased and injured belonged to Krishna lanka here, police added.
The deceased were identified as K Ramaseetha (70), Uma Devi (52), Kanaka Durga (42), Madhavi Latha (35), Sri Lakshmi (20), K Subba Lakshmi (65), K Swara Sharam (eight), Vasuda (one) and driver G Ramakrishna (30).
In another mishap, three persons killed and 12 others were injured when another State owned bus collided with a lorry at Durgapuram near Gannavaram airport.
Police said the APSRTC bus, which was proceeding to Rajahmundry dashed against a lorry when it halted for boarding passengers.
The injured were admitted to Government General Hospital here, where the condition of four was stated to be critical.
Meanwhile, Vijayawada region RTC Regional Manager M Sitapathi told UNI that the deceased included two male passengers and conductor.
They were identified as M V Ratnam (55), Ramanaik Patel (35) and T N Rao (52).
He said the Corporation had announced an ex-gratia of Rs 20,000 each to the kin of the deceased. An amount of Rs 1,000 also was announced for the passengers who suffered minor injuries and Rs 2,000 for those who suffered serious injuries and Rs 5,000 for those with multiple fractures towards medical aid, he added.
