Shimla, Oct 21 (UNI) The Himachal capital is reeling under an acute water crisis and the woes multiplied further today following malfunctioning of water pumps at Ashwani Khud.
The water supply to various localities of the town was affected today after the only two water pumps at the Khud stopped lifting water simultaneously, Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor Kataria told UNI here.
He said a new pump has been bought from Chandigarh to replace the ageing ones and would be installed by tomorrow evening following which regular drinking water supply would be restored to parts of the town.
However, much of the water crisis took place due to a disruption in the main water supply at Churhat Khud six days ago and could only be repaired in the next five to six days and till then water rationing will continue, he said.
Regretting the inconvenience to the public, Mr Kataria said the municipal corporation officials were working round the clock to repair the faults and restore regular water supply.
