Shimla, Oct 21 (UNI) The drinking water crises in this historic town of Himachal Pradesh deepened further today following a malfunctioning in the water pumps at Ashwani Khud after the main water supply line from Guma ruptured six days ago.
The water supply to various localities of the town was affected today after only two water pumps at the Khud stopped lifting water one after the other, Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor Kataria told UNI here.
He said a new pump has been bought from Chandigarh to replace the aging ones and would be installed by tomorrow evening following which regular drinking water supply would be restored to parts of the town.
However, the rupture in the main water supply at Churhat Khud, which occurred five to six days ago, would only be repaired in another five to six days and until then rationing of water would continue, he said.
Regretting the inconvenience to the public, Mr Kataria said the MC officials were working round the clock to repair the faults and provide regular water supply.
