Singapore, Oct 21 (UNI) Singapore today encouraged UN Secretary General's Special Advisor Ibrahim Gambari to continue his consultations in the region on Myanmar.

Singapore, as chairman of the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations, also assured Mr Gambari that it would continue to do all it could to support his efforts to promote national reconciliation and a political solution in the region.

Singapore's Foreign Affairs Ministry officials reiterated concerns about the situation in Myanmar and hoped the Myanmar authorities would extend complete cooperation to Mr Gambari by conceding his early return to Myanmar.

The ministry, in its statement, today said Sinapore also wants the Myanmar Junta to facilitate meetings for him with the widest possible range of other contacts, in particular Aung San Suu Kyi, members of the National League for Democracy, the monks and members of the State Constitution Drafting Commission.

Mr Gambari is currently on his six-nation Asian consultation tour to find a peaceful solution to the situation in Myanmar before returning to Myanmar in November 2007.

He was in transit in Singapore today.
