Bhopal, Oct 21 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar today stressed on making ultramodern weapons, equipment and training available to police so that personnel's lives were not endangered.
''In the present scenario, the police's role is becoming extremely complex. The Department should fulfill its duty sans discrimination and society should cooperate with men in uniform,'' he said at Lal Parade Ground here while addressing the Police Commemoration Day parade. He placed a wreath at the Memorial, as per a release.
Expressing concern over mob violence, he said that people who get agitated over trifles, torch buses and damage public property do not cause loss to any individual but to the country.
''Over the past year, 17 martyrs' cases were tackled and their families compensated. Of 11 cases, compassionate appointment was granted in seven,'' said Director-General of Police Anand Rao Pawar.
Chief Secretary Rakesh Sahni was chief guest.
The Governor released 'Balaghta Ke Jan Shaheed' -- a book published by Balaghat Police, the release added.
