Dussehra celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour
Panaji, Oct 21 (UNI) Dussehra, the festival symbolising the victory of good over evil, is celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour in Goa today.
Thousands of devotees thronged the richly decorated pandals to worship Goddess Durga, in her myriad forms, trampling the evil-demon Mahishasura.
Vendors selling tonnes of marigold flowers made hectic business with families buying them on the auspicious occasion to decorate their houses and vehicles.
Street corners and busy junctions besides markets were seen with women selling the garlands of marigold. So were sweet shops which made quick buck with devotees buying a variety of sweets for offering them to relatives and friends.
Governor S C Jamir and Chief Minister Digambar Kamat greeted the people on the occasion.
People of different communities greeted each other and shared sweets. Bengali community celebrated the festival with big enthusiasm.
