Chandigarh, Oct 21 (UNI) Dussehra, marking victory of virtue over evil, was celebrated in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Chandigarh today.
The celebration also marked the end of the Durga Puja festival in the North West.
Effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhkaran went up in flames in the cities and towns of the North West to signify the victory of good over evil. Crackers boomed as the effigies were set ablaze.
In Punjab, elaborate security arrangements had been made at all the venues due to the Shingar cinema bomb explosion which left six dead. In Chandigarh, the main function was held at the Parade Grounds.
