Bangladesh Judiciary separation from Nov 1

Dhaka, Oct 21: The Advisory Council to the caretaker government in Bangladesh will start the task of implementing the separation of the Judiciary from the Executive control from November 1.

Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed yesterday directed the council of advisers, cabinet secretary and secretaries of the ministries concerned to implement the decision smoothly and successfully, Bangladesh Today reported.

The law adviser and the law secretary briefed the advisers about the latest position on the separation.

''November 1, 2007, the day of enforcing separation of the judiciary from the executive branch, would be a historical moment in Bangladesh,'' the council observed.

The advisory council discussed logistic, personnel and other supports for smooth functioning of the judiciary.

Political interference, in the past, had weakened the independence of the judicial system and the process of disposal of fair judgment.

The government was taking steps to establish an independent judiciary to make democracy sustainable.
