Vijayawada, Oct 20 (UNI) Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Bharatiya Jana Shakti (BJS) President Uma Bharati today said DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was adopting ''double standards'' on the Ram Sethu issue.

Addressing a press conference here, she alleged that on the one hand Mr Karunanidhi was asking people to visit Rameswaram for the presence of the Ram Sethu created by Lord Ram and his Vanar Sena, on the other he was making statements that there was no Ram Sethu and Lord Ram had not existed.

She asked Mr Karunanidhi to believe the existence of 'Adams bridge' which should be protected at any cost.

On the statements made by Union Finance Minister P Chidamabaram and Mr Karunanidhi that the work of Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project would continue with the present alignment, Ms Bharati said she was not against the construction of the project but it should be constructed on an alternative alignment.

''I am the first woman to raise the Ram Sethu issue and urged the political parties not to politicise it,'' she claimed.
