Chandigarh, Oct 20 (UNI) Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator, General (Retd.) S F Rodrigues has extended his greetings to people on the auspicious occasion of Dushera and Durga Pooja festivals.
In a message, he said that the festival of Dushera, which commemorates the defeat of evil forces by Lord Rama, the epitome of virtue, is celebrated in the country from time immemorial. It reflects our firm belief in truthfulness and righteousness.
He said that in this festive occasion, there is an underlying message of virtuous, purposeful and peaceful living in the present materialistic world and creating a healthy and harmonious society.
The Governor appealed to the people to celebrate these festivals collectively in the best traditions of a composite culture, rising above considerations of caste, creed and religion and thus demonstrating unity, brotherhood and oneness of mankind.
In a separate message, Punjab Congress President Rajinder Kaur Bhattal also conveyed her greetings to the people on Dushera festival.
She said the festival symbolized triumph of goodness over evil.
She called upon people to introspect and shun negative thoughts and feelings from inner self and work for the betterment of society at large.
"We should all rise above caste, colour, creed and party affiliations to celebrate this festival with spirit of peace, brotherhood, communal amity and mutual cooperation", she said.
Mrs Bhattal stressed on the need to take lesson from Dushera in order to keep evil intentions at bay and tread on the path of truthfulness.
