Policeman, militant killed, hawala money seized in J&K

Srinagar, Oct 20 (UNI) A policeman and a militant were killed, while security forces arrested two Hizbul Mujahideen activists and busted a hideout in Jammu and Kashmir during the past 34 hours, an official spokesman said today.

He said a police party, led by the Assistant Superintendent of Police, was fired upon by the militants at Malpora village in apple-rich Sopore town of Baramulla district this afternoon.

The fire was returned and in the ensuing gun-battle, a militant was killed. Two policemen also got injured in the encounter, the spokesman said, adding that later one of them succumbed to his injuries.

A civilian was also wounded in the exchange of fire.

The spokesman said a police party intercepted a matador at Kantha Morh in Gool area of Ramban district in Jammu region during the intervening night of October 19-20.

Two over ground workers, including the driver of the vehicle, belonging to the Hizbul Mujahideen were apprehended. Rs 1.31 lakh of hawala money, five mobile sets along with three sim cards were also seized from the vehicle, he added.

The spokesman said the consignment was being delivered to militants in the area.

Security forces busted a militant hideout at Kanthi forests in Gandoh area of Doda district on October 18. One IED fitted in a pressure cooker, one battery and 70 AK rounds were seized from there, he added.
