Mumbai, Oct 20 (UNI) Team India Opener Gautam Gambhir struck a brilliant 63 runs along with good cameos by Robin Uthappa 35 and vice captain Yuvraj Singh 31 to help India register an easy victory over Australia in the one off Twenty20 match at the Brabourne stadium here this evening.
Chasing a target of 167, India lost Virender Sehwag early at the score of 20 runs. However, a well-crafted partnership of 82 runs between Uthappa and Gambhir saw India reaching a comfortable position of 102 runs in 10.3 overs. But Uthappa got out after scoring a 35 valuable runs off 38 deliveries, including six well-struck boundaries. He was caught by Adam Gilchrist off the bowling of Stuart Clark.
After this, it was again the swashbuckling knock of Yuvraj which sent the crowds crazy as he smacked three huge sixes and a four.
Gambhir also struck a six in his innings which also saw six fours before being caught by Ricky Ponting off the bowling of Ben Hilfenhaus scoring a match-winning 63 runs off just 52 deliveries.
Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni gave the finishing touches to the comprehensive victory by hitting a blistering six off Brett Lee to prove again that in the fast and furious format of the game the Indian side had yet to find its match.
