Puducherry, Oct 20 (UNI) The final electoral rolls for Puducherry with January 1, 2008 as the qualifying date will be published on January 10 next year.
Talking to newspersons here this evening, Puducherry District Election Officer and District Collector Theva Neethi Das said the summery revision of the rolls would begin on October 22 with the publication of the draft rolls.
There were 710 booths in the union territory and the complaints regarding inclusion, deletion and objections could be submitted to the booth officer, who would be camping in the booth. The assistant returning officers would verify the complaints.
Mr Das said a citizen of Puducherry, who attained 18 years of age and studying in another state, could enroll himself/herself here as a voter by submitting Form six along with a declaration about his residence.
The principal of the college/institution should certify that the person was a student of that college, besides submitting photographs of the candidate.
He said students from other states, who wanted to be enrolled as voters in Puducherry, should also follow the same norms.
Mr Das said the size of the EPIC for the freshers would be brought down to the size of a PAN card and this would contain the person's date of birth. If more than ten voters had the same address, a thorough verification would be carried out.
Out of the 7.12 lakh voters in the union territory, 3.68 lakh were women. Puducherry was second to Kerala, where women voters were more in number, he added.
