Mumbai, Oct 20 (UNI) Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Anbumani Ramdoss today said the Government will re-draft and make amendments to the Human Organ Transplant policy soon, as there are many people who want to donate organs to the needy.

He said the government will work towards raising awareness about cadaveric transplants.

Speaking at Smt Priyamvada Birla Oration Award, Mr Ramdoss said ''More than 1,60,000 people die in road accidents in India every year, the highest in the world, and there are people who need organ transplants very badly.'' There is a need to increase awareness about cadaver transplants in the country because it will solve the problem of human organ transplants to a major extent. At present, it amounts to only 6.1 per cent of the total number of operations, he added.
