BSF siezes arms and ammunition, arrests three DHD ultras

Shillong, Oct 20 (UNI) The Border Security Force (BSF) has busted the hideout of the Jewel Gorlosa faction of the Dima Halam Daogah (DHD) and arrested three DHD cadres at Durbin Tilla near the Meghalaya-Assam border.

BSF spokesperson V S Sikarkarwar said here today that BSF personnel seized eight AK-47 assault rifles with 660 rounds of live ammunition, one grenade launcher and one stengun, besides Rs 37 lakh in cash and Rs 50 lakh in Nepali currency, three mobile handsets and two wrist watches from the hideout yesterday.

Acting on the information provided by DHD(J) ''second Lt'' Joy Kishore Tharsen alias Daku Singh, who was arrested on October 17, two other ultras were nabbed from Umrangso area in Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

Meanwhile, the BSF and other security agencies started investigation, Mr Sikarkarwar said.

The DHD(J) group, also known as the ''Black Widow'', was formed in June 2004 after the DHD signed a ceasefire agreement with the Centre, police said, adding that they suspected that the group had a cadre strength of around 150 members.

The DHD(J) group had the backing of the NSCN(I-M), which was under a ceasefire agreement with the Centre for the past ten years and in recent times, the outfit was creating terror in the Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hills district of Assam.
