Mandi, Oct 20 (UNI) The BJP today expressed surprise over Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh's recent statement on continuing to hold office till March 9 after a new assembly is constituted on January 1, next year.

Talking to mediapersons here, state party in charge Satpal Jain said the Chief Minister's remark was indication of the party desperation on early announcement of elections and its imminent defeat.

He asked the Congress High command to clarify whether it also endorsed the views of its chief minister who was in all probability likely to create constitutional crises in the state.

Expressing optimism that a pro-BJP wave was perceptible in the state, he said the party was likely to get a two-thirds majority in the two phase elections that would be held on November 14 and December 19.

Mr Jain said the elections in the state would be fought under the combined leadership of the BJP and party's leader would be named after the elections.
