Ahmedabad, Oct 20 (UNI) Hitting out at the proposed 'anti-Modi' campaign to be launched by saints of VHP, the BJP today dubbed the saints as ''those promoted by Congress with vested interest''.

''The so-called saints assembled under the banner of Hindu Dharma Jagaran are misleading the people of Gujarat. They are making false statements on thousands of cases of rape and murders reported in Gujarat, which is quite shameful in the name of spiritualism,'' said BJP spokesperson Vijay Rupani, referring to the proposed 'Virat Hindu Sammelan' to be held by the saints coinciding with Chief Minister Narendra Modi's public meeting in Amreli on October 22.

''The so-called saints have launched a mud-slinging campaign against Chief Minister Narendra Modi, whose name is taken with pride. In Congress-ruled states like Maharashtra where thousands of farmers commit suicide, these saints do not raise their objection, while in Gujarat where farmers are prosperous, these saints are raising the false issue of farmers' suicides. They have quoted the figure of 500 in Gujarat, which is baseless,'' Mr Rupani told reporters here.

''In Congress-ruled states, crime graph against women is spiralling day by day, whearas in Gujarat women can walk on the streets at midnight without fear. Yet, the saints are making false statements of rising crime rate against women in Gujarat,'' he alleged.
