That other countries wanted to have trade treaties with India, was testimony to the fact that it was most favoured nation because of fast development, he said at a felicitation function held to honour newly appointed Punjab Congress President Rajinder Kaur Bhattal here yesterday.
He accused the National Democratic Alliance partners BJP and SAD of following dual policy at the centre and could not discern between healthy criticism and false allegations or character assassination.
Mr Bansal urged the opposition to play a constructive role in the development of the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Rajinder Kaur Bhattal lamented that only in a short span of seven months, popularity curve of SAD-BJP regime had plummeted in Punjab.
She alleged that SAD-BJP coalition regime had failed to protect the legitimate rights of the people and development had taken a backseat in state.
She said that demands of Government employees had not been fulfilled, youth were agitating for regular employment and there was no new concrete programme or agenda for ameliorating the lot of the poor and down trodden.
Former Punjab minister Jagmohan Singh Kang expressed gratitude to congress President Sonia Gandhi Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for appointing Mrs Bhattal as President of Punjab Congress.
