Woman dies of asthma, man attempts suicide during Janata Darshan

Bangalore, Oct 19 (UNI) A middle-aged woman died of asthma, while a man attempted suicide during Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur's Janata Darshan to hear public grievances at Vidhana Soudha, the State Secretariat, here today.

Ms Puttalakshmamma, hailing from a village in Mandya district, who had come to meet the Governor to seek redressal, collapsed as she had a severe asthma attack.

She was immediately rushed to the Bowring Hospital, where she died. It was stated that she had not taken food since the last two days and this might have led to aggravation of asthma, police said.

Shivraj (38), an unemployed hailing from Karadigere, also in Mandya district, allegedly consumed insecticide in front of the Governor, who was busy receiving applications from people.

Police said he had earlier consumed insecticide three times, including once in the High Court.

Harassment from some people was said to be the reason behind his attempt to commit suicide. He was also rushed to Bowring Hospital in an ambulance, where he was said to be recovering.
