Two local AITC leaders charged of CPI(M) leader's murder
Santiniketan, Oct 19 (UNI) Two leaders of All India Trinamool Congress were today arrested here on charges of murdering local CPI(M) committee leader of Birbhum district Sukumar Das late last night.
Police said that in Das', in his dying statement, had held local Trinamool leaders Nimai Das and Sheikh Mustafa responsible for the attack.
According to police reports, when the CPI(M) leader was returning home after last night's 'Saptami' pujas, his convoy was attacked by some miscreants on motor bikes at Srichandrapur under Bolpur district. They hurled bombs at him, fatally injuring him.
He died on his way to the Bolpur subdivisional hospital, police said.
Tension persisted in the district due to last night's incident. An irate mob set three shops in Debagram on fire. Fire tenders have successfully extinguished the blaze.
Following a post mortem, the CPI(M) supporters, carrying their leader's body, went on a protest rally today.
Earlier, local CPI(M) leader Samir Bhattacharjee alleged that the Trinamool Congress goons were behind the murder of CPI(M) leader Das.
CPI(M) MP Ram Chandra Dom and the CPI(M) fraternity today paid their last respects to Sukumar Das.
