Chennai, Oct 19 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government will again write to the Centre, seeking the Chief Justice of India (CJI) to set up a bench of the apex court in the city.
Replying to Mr E S S Raman (Congress) during question hour, Law Minister Duraimurugan told the State Assembly that the draft of the letter, to be sent to the Centre, was sent to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on October 14.
After going through its contents, Mr Karunanidhi would write to the Centre, urging it to take up the issue with the CJI, he added.
Mr Duraimurugan said that following demands from the people, the State had earlier written to the Centre in this regard. When the Centre had taken up the matter with the Supreme Court, a full bench of the apex court studied it and decided against establishing a Bench in any part of the country. The full bench's decision was conveyed to the State by the Centre, he added.
Following repeated demands, the State would again write to the Centre on the issue, he said.
