Gangtok, Oct 19: Football activities in the home state of Bhaichung Bhutia are all set for a fillip with Sikkim Football Association (SFA) charting out plans for an all year football calendar.
An all India national-level women's football tourney, with participations from women football teams from all over the country will be a major push from SFA starting from 2008.
''We will be organising an All India Women's Football Tournament from next year in memory of Late L D Kazi. We will invite women's team from all over the country,'' said Tempo Bhutia, SFA president.
Late Kazi was the first Chief Minister of Sikkim.
The tournament, which is set to start from July-August 2008 will be played for L D Kazi Memorial Trophy with finals scheduled on August 15.
''We have received positive response from All India Football Federation and I am positive of the success of the tournament,'' said Mr Bhutia.
SFA is also planning to upgrade the proposed women's football tournament to international standards from 2009 upto Asian level tournament.
''Meanwhile, SFA will be proponing the annual Sir Tashi Namgyal men's football tournament to April-May in order to accommodate the women's championship. The men's football tournament used to be an annual feature of the Independence Day celebrations in Sikkim. The idea is to have an all year football activities in Sikkim,'' said Mr Bhutia.
