Kerala Waterway to be completed in two years: CM

Kollam, Kerala, Oct 19 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said the Mangeswaram-Kovalam National Waterway will be opened in two years, giving a boost to tourism industry in the State.

Tenders would be invited for completing the project in the specified time, he told reporters after visiting the Varkala Canal.

Mr Achuthanandan said that as a first step, the Nadayara lake and the Kovil Thodu lake would be connected. The people living along the banks of the canal should be rehabilitated and steps would be taken in this regard, he added.

He said work was progressing in the Kollam-Thiruvananthapuram stretch and tenders have been invited for the project.

Water Works Minister N K Premachandran, Law Minister M Vijayakumar and Varaka Radhakrishnan, MP, were among those who visited the Varkala Canal along with the Chief Minister.
