Rajkot, Oct 19 (UNI) The Election Commission of India has issued notices to Saurashtra University Vice-Chancellor Dr Kamlesh Joshipura and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Kalpak Trivedi seeking clarification on why they had attended a function addressed by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi at Atmya College on October 15.

Rajkot district Deputy Election Officer B B Dwivedi told UNI that the notices were served last evening.

He said that a report had been sent to the ECI on the basis of a video recording of the October 15 function.

The function was videographed following a complaint from Congress leaders, who informed the Collector of the alleged violation of the model code of conduct at the said function.

When contacted, Dr Kamlesh Joshipura said that he had received a letter, not a notice from the Election Commission of India last evening, seeking an explanation regarding a function that he attended.

The Vice-Chancellor and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor have to reply to the notices by October 22, Mr Dwivedi said.

On October 15, Mr Modi, Dr Joshipura, Mr Trivedi and many others had attended the youth convention organised by various educationists at Atmya college here.

The Vice-Chancellor, in his speech, had praised Mr Modi and his efforts for highlighting Saurashtra in the US and providing opportunities to youth in the field of education.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor too had praised Mr Modi and the Gujarat Government's achievements at the function.
