APSRTC sets record by carrying Rs 1.55 lakh on single day

Tirupati, Oct 19 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has set a record by carrying 1.55 lakh pilgrims to and fro, on the Tirupati-Tirumala ghat road in a single day on the eve of 'Garuda Seva', the fifth day of 'Navarathri Brahmotsavams' held on last Tuesday.

It was the highest ever number of passengers transported on a single day on the ghat road operating 2,800 trips by plying 442 buses, RTC Regional Manager (Tirupati) M S Prakasa Rao said in a release here yesterday.

On the ghat road operations, on the 'Garuda Seva' day, RTC earned Rs 36 lakh and the overall revenue for the day was Rs 104 lakh, he said, adding that about 800 drivers and 500 conductors were engaged on the day round the clock.

During the past five-days of nine-day 'Brahmotsavams', the Corporation had transported as many as 5.44 lakh pilgrims. The special buses would continue operations upto October 20 when the festival would be concluded, he added.
