Chennai, Oct 19 (UNI) Several people were feared trapped under debris when a more than 35-year-old Tamil Nadu Housing Board apartment collapsed due to heavy rain at Ukkadam in Coimbatore district, this evening.
Reports received at the police headquarters here said at least 25 flats in the apartment, which were in a dilapidated condition, collapsed, trapping people under the debris.
There was no immediate information about casualties.
The district administration were evicting people from the apartment since this morning as it was in a bad condition. Though a majority of the people were evacuated, some, who had gone to bring their personal belongings, might have been trapped, the reports said.
Police, fire and revenue personnel were supervising the rescue and relief operations.
