Youth convicted on rape charges
Mumbai, Oct 18 (UNI) A local court here today sentenced a 26-year-old youth to five years rigorous imprisonment, after convicting him of raping a minor girl in 2001 at Mahim here.
Additional sessions judge K U Chandiwal also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 upon Santosh Ganpat Lamkhede, or an additional year's imprisonment.
Judge Chandiwal directed that the fine amount be paid to the victim.
Lamkhede and the 17-year-old victim were staying in the same area and were in love.
On the promise of marrying her, the youth had raped the girl following which she became pregnant. The youth, however, refused to marry the girl later.
The girl's parents had lodged a complaint with the police in this regard.
