Virtual employment exchange launched
New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) An e-portal was today launched to impart skills in new and innovative vocations to the youths and generate employment opportunities for them.
The portal, www.skillindia.com, is a repository of information for vocational courses and trades that have the potential for providing employment.
A unique feature of the portal is that it provides relevant and updated learning resources for each vocation.
Developed by JSSATE-Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Park, Noida, the portal was launched by Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal and Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister Kumari Selja here.
It is part of the project, 'Skills and Knowledge for Improved ] Livelihod and Living Standards (SKILLS), which is supported by UNDP.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Sibal expressed the hope that the initiative would enhance employability and earning capacity of the people.
Announcing a permanent institutional partnership with the Urban Poverty Alleviation Ministry to take the initiative forward, he called for development of ties between different ministries, international organisations and private sector to reach out to the people.
He said the number of trades offered on the portal, which amount to 50 at present, would be increased to 100 in a few months.
Kumari Selja expressed the hope that the portal would become a virtual employment exchange for the skilled workers.
