Vigilance Bureau nabs 5 tax inspectors for taking bribe

Chandigarh, Oct 18 (UNI) Haryana State Vigilance Bureau has caught red-handed five Taxation Inspectors and an Assistant Excise and Taxation Officer of the Sales Tax Department, Jind while accepting illegal gratification.

The inspectors Krishan Beniwal, Naresh Ahlawat, Sanjiv Kumar and the assistant Amlik, were caught while accepting Rs 17,000 from Manoj Kumar resident of Tohana, Fatehabad in lieu of not challaning his 15 loaded vehicles.

In other cases, the Bureau had caught red-handed Vinod Kumar Gupta, Taxation Inspector of DETC, Hisar while accepting an illegal gratification of Rs 11,000 from Atam Parkash of Bisnoi Colony, Hisar in lieu of not challaning his loaded vehicle.

Dharambir Dhankhar, Inspector, Sales Tax Department, Sonipat was also caught red handed by the Bureau while accepting an illegal gratification of Rs.8,000 from Rohtash of Chaudhary Tractor Company, Tohana in lieu of monthly for transport vehicle.

A spokesman of the Bureau said that the cases have been registered against all the accused under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 in the Bureau's Police Station at Hisar and Rohtak.

He said that further investigation of the cases were in progress.
