MOSCOW, Oct 18 (Reuters) Russia today launched an inter-continental ballistic missile from its Plesetsk cosmodrome in northern Russia, domestic media reported.
The RS-12M Topol' rocket, with the NATO designation of SS-25 Sickle and configured for a mobile platform, was successfully launched at 9:10 a.m local time. Moscow time, ITAR-TASS said, quoting a spokesman from the Russian strategic rocket forces.
The spokesman said the training exercise included hitting a target on the Kamchatka peninsula on Russia's Pacific coast.
Officers and soldiers from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome are set later today to take part in Russian President Vladimir Putin's Internet and telephone question-and-answer session with the public.
